Tip! Feeling tired? Suffer from chronic fatigue? Ask your doctor to check your iron levels. Low iron is a common cause of chronic fatigue. If you want to add more iron to your diet, be sure to eat a lot of dark leafy green vegetables. In addition to iron, they are packed with loads of important nutrients that help support a healthy metabolism and natural healing mechanisms in the body.


Tip! Stay away from energy drinks and excess caffeine. If you feel tired, get more sleep (see sleep recommendations in the article section of this website). Sugar-free or not, they promote fatigue. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain


This week, Dr. Cassaro discussed Fibromyalgia and chronic pain.



This week, host Dr. Cassaro and co-host Dennis Birkemeier discussed the multitude of symptoms that can accompany this condition. Fibromyalgia treatment is possible; in fact, many of Dr. Cassaro's Fibromyalgia patients are in full remission of all symptoms and live productive, pain-free lives. You can take control of your Fibromyalgia too.

Fibromyalgia is a specific medical term given for a very non-specific condition. Although doctors sometimes use a list of criteria to categorize Fibromyalgia patients, it is so much more complex than just checking boxes on your chart. Fibromyalgia symptoms can vary greatly both in description and intensity among those who suffer.

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome, not a specific disease or condition. Fibromyalgia is different and unique to each person who suffers from it. However, there are some symptoms that are similiar across the board:

  • Memory loss and mental "fog"
  • Non-specific pain and tenderness throughout the body
  • Multiple symptoms, including pain, that seem resistant to traditional treatments
  • Depression and chronic fatigue
  • Excessive joint and muscle pain

Unfortunately, Fibromyalgia is sometimes diagnosed as a way of saying [by your doctor] "I have no idea what is causing all of your symptoms, I can't find a cause and I am not sure I even believe you in the first place" [...] "I will diagnose you with Fibromyalgia; there is no cure for that, so I have not failed." Yes, that sounds extreme, but it is an unfortunate truth. What's more, a person diagnosed with Fibromyalgia then start to believe that there is no effective treatment; only days with a little pain or a lot of pain. This is not true either. Support groups are great, but the only way you can ever expect to live pain free and take control of your Fibromyalgia is to get involved in your treatment and demand results from your doctor and yourself. If your doctor is not supportive in getting you effective treatment, find another doctor.

As for your part, there are several things you can do at home to greatly reduce the amount of pain associated with Fibromyalgia. Before going any further, however, we want to point out that it is imperative that you follow these suggestions strictly. Any treatment; professional or otherwise is not going to be effective if it is not done thoroughly. So please keep that in mind.


Diet:

Only eat vegetables from the produce department at your grocery store or preferably a farmers market. Try to eat up to 9 servings per day; and as much of it raw as possible. Eat meats from a local farm if possible, or from a butcher's shop. Eat nothing processed, man made, or instant. No frozen meals, no canned soups, etc. regardless of the "natural" or "healthy" claims on the label. Real foods do not need a nutritional "proof" label. Additionally, eat ZERO sugar, ZERO grains, and ZERO starches. You may be asking "What will I eat then?" The answer is - everything you were intended to eat in nature.

Part of what made you sick in the first place was what you were putting into your body that should have never been there. Everyone is different; what affects some in an adverse way may not affect another. If you have Fibromyalgia, you are one of the ones that should not eat these things. Just like allergies, everyone is unique.

Exercise:

The only exercise you need to do is to take a brisk walk every day. Don't overdo it. Start small. If you start to feel tired by the time you get to the end of the driveway, head back home. Start again tomorrow and set a goal to go a little further. Anything is better than laying around in a recliner or in a bed all day. Before you know it, you will be walking further than you ever thought possible; your metabolism will get a jump-start, and your pain will become less and less intense.

Sleep:

Being unconscious is not the same thing as being asleep. If you have Fibromyalgia and find it difficult to get good sleep each night, follow these recommendations. First, be consistent. Plan for a good night's sleep. Lay down to go to bed each night at the same time. No exceptions. Turn off all distractions; no TV, no music, no food, etc. Be sure to eat you last meal at least two to three hours before laying down. No coffee, tea, ice cream, cookies, etc. between last meal and bedtime. Sleep at night. If you feel like you can't sleep at night, and only during the day, then you may try a natural sleep aid like valarian root. It may take weeks to get to where you sleep at night, all night. However, our bodies were designed to do so. Sunlight causes you body to produce "wake cycle" hormones. If you sleep during this time, you are making everything much worse.
